I really, really love words. When junking, finding an old dictionary can make my day. Finding an encyclopedia dictionary, well, I'm good for a whole week.
I also really, really love food. And not only do I love books, but I love magazines. If I find an article, or an idea, or a recipe, I tear and save. I know, so old school. So this week I finally began sorting through a year of torn out recipes, cutting and pasting (in real life) so that I might actually use (some of) them more often.
A few years ago my mom made each of us three girls a recipe book with copied pages of my Grandma's special recipes, and it is a treasure to read, especially her handwritten ones. This one is for Salmon Loaf, surprisingly really good.
Along with finding a 1990 Webster's illustrated encyclopedia dictionary, I found this Webster's Children's dictionary, inscribed to Lester Jean Kile (which is the first name??), from Mother and Daddy Christmas 1936...
and these vintage kitchen reference books. Maybe my husband will build me some Modern Kitchen Cabinets. However, I don't think I will be donning my apron while cooking dinner this week.
This letter flashcard found it's way home from my mom's stash this weekend at the Two Women Barn Bazaar outside of Spokane, WA. She still has some that she is bringing to The Farm Chicks show next weekend...so next week, sneak peeks!!
I love the new blog!! My mom used to make Salmon Loaf with a creamy egg sauce for us when we were growing up. It was my Great Grandma's recipe. It was NOT a favorite!! I am sure that your recipe is delicious. ;)
ReplyDeleteHope that you had a wonderful show at Two Women and that Farm Chicks is amazing!!
Stacey and I will be having a yard sale in Palouse. I am DREADING it. I am not a yard sale aficionado like yourself!! :)
Thank you Miss Kristin, and I'm so glad someone else remembers Salmon Loaf=)!! (anything my Grandma made tasted amazing for some reason!!) Oh I sooo wish I could come to YOUR yard sale!!=) Love to your family~
Deletei have the same addiction to dictionarys! Even when traveling, if I spy one... it's mine!! My husband is so understanding~ especially when one that I found was nine inches deep! That baby flew home in our suitcase!
ReplyDeleteMiss Kadee, I should have figured you love dictionaries too with your creative streak!! I would have done the same with the dictionary, good job;)!!
DeleteMe too Hollie! I love the dictionary and I love cookbooks and magazines and old stationary. I just seem to love paper products.
ReplyDeleteI have so many recipes printed from online I need a good way to organize them and have them take up less space, got any ideas?
Yes, Paper Products Rock!!=)...Hmm...less space, something I'm so not good at=)!! I'll think~

Hi Hollie,
ReplyDeleteI love collecting (hoarding) magazines & cookbooks, you may remember me telling you my dad was a chef. He had an amazing recipe collection. My sister and I share his books, and recipes, many of them are cut out and pasted into a scrapbook! I love having this memory of him. Last year my sister Jan, started a blog using dad's punch recipes, it's called the "50 best punch recipes", you can find it on my side bar. So proud of her, she has won several awards from foodies. So if you ever need a punch recipe, you know where to look :) See you at Farm Chicks, would love to have dinner together, we'll chat next week. Glad & Cel
I remember that about your sister! So awesome...and can't wait to see you alll next weekend!!
